If I want to move files from folder A to folder B, what would be the fastes way to do it?
Today I just use my computer, but then the files first have to go through my computer, and I thought that perhaps there was a faster way?

Open folder A, right click on the file to be transfered in and select send to, a window will open and all you have to do is select drive B. This should take care of the issue.
Hey AndersJ200
Please give more details about your question.
If you are using PC to arrange files on NAS (move data within NAS):
In a past I have the same believe (“that files first have to go through my computer”), but now things look differently.
I’m using win xp home sp3.
In 99% of cases I’m using windows explorer cut/paste and files moved in a blink of a eye (for many gigabytes). But in 1% explorer is doing move very slow, like really “copy to PC then copy from PC to NAS”.
In this case I’m doing workaround:
-cancel transfer
-create artificial folder
-move data into artificial folder
-cut/paste artificial folder to destination
-remove data from artificial folder and delete it.
It is working for me, and this way I can move files inside share and between shares.
If you want to use other tool then PC to arrange files, please, give more details
If you folder A and folder B located on different devices, then it is another story
In fact, since both directories are on the same device, and because that device (My Book Live) is in fact by itself a computer, you make the assumption that there should be a way to copy one directory to the other without using your PC CPU ?
You are right, It’s possible. You have first to enable ssh on My Book Live ( http://999.999.999/ssh , where 999.999.999 should be replaced by the address of your MyBook Live), then install and use a Putty client on your PC, and use the command cp (copy)… If all that looks complex, it may be better for you not to do it. But if you do, make some research with Google.
An easier way, when ssh is enabled, is to use WinSCP on your PC.
I tried winSCP but was only getting 2mb/sec transfer speeds. I was trying to move my videos from the public share to a new share so I could limit what users could do wirh the files.
Why can we not control users rights to the public shares?
What should I say?
If I use mc via ssh to move files - it is slow, like it doing real copy process.
If I use samba - it is milliseconds.
Here is another topic related to speed increase via samba

Hello. I would not need to move all of the files if I could limit all but myself from changing files in the Public Shares. Is this possible?
