Swapping hdd over to new housing

Hi all.
I’ve an old wdMycloud 2tb external NAS drive that has sadly bricked. Can I take the hdd that’s inside it and fit it into a mycloud ex2 ultra without having to reformat the drive? I have 10years of photos and thousands of music files I don’t Want to loose.
Thanks
David

Hi @Llewellyndavid
Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:

Hi. I’ve spoken to someone in support who talked me through trying to get it back up and running and after an hour of pressing this and trying that he informed me that there was nothing he could do and recommended a data recovery firm. Not going down that route as the data is fine all I need to do is go take the disc out as it’s the board that’s knackered and there’s software that will allow me to get the data onto a new drive as the system is Linux. Just wondered if WD’s ex drive would allow me to just plug and play. If not a new external drive is the answer
