Subtitles on Twonky 6.0.38

Hi,

I have posted the same message in the Twonky forums, but I’ll try here too just in case someone can help me.

I have a WD My Book Live 2Tb streaming Twonky to an Xbox 360.

Yesterday I upgraded the default TwonkyServer installation in the drive (5.something) to 6.0.38 hoping to be able to get subtitles, but they don’t work. I have tried with different video formats (althought most of them, .avi), and the subtitles are .srt with the same name as the video.

My questions are:

  • Subtitles are supported on Twonky 6.0.38, right? (just to be sure)
  • Do they need to be enabled somehow?
  • Has anyone tried them with this configuration? or at least in an Xbox?
  • I have just seen the release of version 6.0.39, will the upgrade help with this issue?

Thanks!

In most cases, DLNA doesn’t support subtitles that are “external” to the file.

You might want to try re-muxing the video into a container that supports INTERNAL subs, such as MKV or MP4.

There are some DLNA media software which proclaim they support external subtitles, like Mezzmo. From what I’ve read of Twonky 6.0.38 I understood that they did too, but perhaps it is only with internal. I will test it with one of those formats when I get home.

According to a user of the twonkyforum, Twonky 6.0.3x does support external subtitles, but not the Xbox DLNA receiver. Too bad!
