Ssh with root user not working

I cannot ssh into my mycloud EX2 anymore,
off course ssh is enabled and I’ve set a custom password for it.
I’m using the root user and tried with my custom password and also with the default password “welc0me”
It used to work to ssh with my mycloud but since last firmware update it don’t.
An other possible cause is I reinstalled Windows/MobaXterm so maybe my private key is gone…?
Not so experienced with ssh keys.

Anyone can help?

C:\Windows\system32>ssh root@192.168.1.8
root@192.168.1.8’s password:
Permission denied, please try again.

root@192.168.1.8’s password:
Permission denied, please try again.
root@192.168.1.8’s password:
root@192.168.1.8: Permission denied (publickey,password).

First there is a dedicated subforum for the EX2 series of devices. This subforum is generally for the single bay/single drive My Cloud.

If one is using the v2.x firmware it appears WD changed the SSH user login name from root to sshd in a recent v2.x firmware release.

Why would they change the login name out of nothing?? Anyways, you saved my cloud! Thank you so much!

Without ssh the device is worthless, I learned from this I will never do spontaneous updates again. If I don’t have root access, the indexing service (wdmcserverd) goes on forever and the device cannot get any sleep. Everything back to normal now.

ps: I had mistaken about having the EX2, I have the single bay and meant firmware v2.x
