Ssh, cp -R to USB drive and .AppleDouble files

Hi

Fairly new to the MDLB, I have searched the forum but I cannot find this subject already discussed.

I am backing up my MBLD to the external USB drive plugged into it. I tried using the SafePoint functionality but this keeps having problems. So I have resorted to connecting via ssh and doing a “cp -R” for each share to the USB.

As I predominately use Apple Macs then this means the directory on the MBLD have the .AppleDouble folders. The cp -R is obviously copying these.

After the copy is finished I plan to reset the MDLB to factory reset, and then copy from the USB back to the MDLB. Do I need to worry about the .AppleDouble folders? Will these just work when I copy back, or do I need to ‘rebuild’ them somehow.

Advance thanks for any advice.

Hi, what problems are you having exactly using SafePoint?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I have been working away for weeks.

I receive the following error message.

Event title:There was an error updating your safepoint.

Event description:2 - There was an error updating your safepoint Livebook1 on the My_Book_1130 share on MyBookLiveDuo.

Severity:warn

Event code:1102

Event time:08-06-2013 01:04:13 AM

Firmware version:02.42.02-012

If I delete the safepoint it will start again for a new one, but as the safepoint takes so long (I am creating a safe point for about 300GB) then when I refresh it to make sure if is uptodate then I get this error. That is why I am trting to backup via ssh

I need to do a full backup as I have another issue logged regarding wdphotos and I have been instructed to do a factory reset.
