I’ve got a new Shuttle XL with 8TB drives in it, and would like to travel with a backup drive. I’ve got two external WD 8TB drives and I could strip one of them out of their plastic shell for such a purpose–is there anything wrong with using one of those rather than the pricey replacement drives? I know they won’t be enterprise class, but I can’t really justify the extra cost right now…
Technically, yes you can do it. We don’t recommend it if they are different drives but the RAID should be able to compensate.
