I’ve been trying to see how much storage space I have left on my WD Drive My Cloud, version 1.0.7.4. Is there a way to do that, and, if not, why not? The entire point of the device is to store data, hence seeing how much storage we have should be very easy.
Also, why is there no search function on the device? I have looked everywhere for one and can’t find anything.–A device with 3 or more tbs of data should most certainly have a search function. What in the world would I do on my Mac if I wanted to find a file as simple as a single paper and there is 2.5 tbs of information on the drive? Sorry, not having a search function on the device is just a wee bit inconvenient. If there is any way to search the device, and well for that matter, please let me know. If you are a computer programmer with the company and are reading this, please incorporate such a function in some kind of update or send out software that people who own can buy cheaply or aquire at no extra charge. Never heard of a national library without a librarian inside, searching for stuff is kind of important.
I will see how these two primary issues are dealt with before adding anything more to the list. I don’t want to come off as rude or ungrateful for such an awesome technology–it is indeed great and I’m happy to have it. And, I’m especially happy there is a community where we can discuss such and the company can look through such and update, revise, take part etc, versus nothing at all.
Log into the WD My Cloud Dashboard. Look at the Capacity entry. It tells you how much is free. If you click the “>” icon in the Capacity section it will tell you the current approximate usage of your My Cloud.
You can search the drive using Windows Explorer on Windows PC’s, or similar file management program on other computers.
Bennor, I see no such feature. There is no indication of Capacity either as an entry or in any drop down bar.
I am aware that if we use Windows the WD drive can be searched. If anyone has any answers regarding my first or second question, all accurate responses appreciated.
I already tried that, cpt_paranoia, and the User Manual specifies that one need only hover one’s cursor over the quick view MD Drive icon, which is what I did on my Mac, and nothing appears. I tried it with the application opened and by going to every occurence of the MD Drive name that might be interpreted as an icon and still no results. I also opened the icon in my finder and tried to “read information,” which on Mac is a way to see how much information is contained with any given file, but my Mac only reads the information of the application, not within the drive.
If there is another area of the Manual to which you were referring, please specify. Thanks
What is version 1.0.7.4? That isn’t a valid firmware version for the MyCloud…
If you’re accessing locally to your network, don’t mess about with the WD apps; they’re unnecessary. Just map the drive into your operating system file system, and use Finder for all file operations. See p23 of the manual.

Are you sure you’re looking at the Dashboard (accessed using a web browser)? Drive capacity is presented on the Dashboard home page, immediately after you log in the the Dashboard. See p41 of the user manual onwards.
Okay, so I must have taken a wrong turn somewhere then. I’ll try your suggestions, thank you. All I did in buying the MyDrive was plug it into my modem and connect it to my computer and the application I think either installled automatically or I downloaded it.
Thank you for your help, Cpt_paranoia.
edit,
I tried your advice and it worked perfectly. Sorry for wasting the community’s time, and thank you for helping me.
If I run into any other problems I’ll be sure to reread the Manual next time. Thank you again.

When you log into the WD My Cloud Dashboard (see this link for more information on how to access the Dashboard) with a web browser you should see something like this:
The Capacity section should indicate how much free space is left. Clicking the “>” icon in the Capacity section should bring up a dialog box similar to the one shown here:
