Server backup over the internet to a remote DL4100

Hi

I have recently purchased a DL4100. We originally intended to use this as a network attached storage device but are investigating changing its role.

Would it be possible to schedule a nightly backup (sync - no the entire contents every night) of a Windows server if the DL4100 was in a remote location? This would be sat in another office or maybe even somebodies home office. I would need some server software to handle the backup (e.g. BackupAssist) but I do not know if the WD device can accept this type of backup.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sean

Some advanced users with SSH knowledge have been able to enable/add similar functions via RSYNC. I’d recommend doing a board search since there are several guides available.

However, please note such proceedings are not supported or warranted by Western Digital.

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure I want to go down the SSH route so may look for another solution. I will have a thorough search on the boards.

Cheers

Sean

Doesn’t page 50 and 51 of the DL4100 User Manual describe exactly how to do this sync to a remote DL4100?

It looks to me like it answers all of your questions.
