Security. unauthorized access attempts

according to Xfinity X1, there are 20~30 access attempts to my “my cloud” each week from disreputable IP addresses… I have tried making WD aware of this by contacting support, but basically get the run-around! Support blames my network provider for this, but I don’t see how or why.

i have a “My Passport” AND a “My Cloud” plugged into the same router. The weekly security report claims various worldwide addresses attempt to access the IP for the “My Cloud”, but never the passport. When I disconnect and power off the My Cloud, the access attempts disappear from the weekly report. To me (a novice home-user) this indicates the MAC for the Cloud drive is out there somewhere and a robot is trying to get in, OR there is some malware built into the marshmallow android running the drive announcing to the world “here I am”…

I would sleep better knowing things are secure, but until I figure something out none of my personal data goes onto this drive… so much for using it as a backup device.

Thanks for the response. Being new at this, i tried to pick the right place to post. Hopefully I will see some replys here as well.

I don’t know what router you are using but have you tried blocking those MAC addresses? See example image below.

In your MyCloud webpage,
Go to Settings >> General >> NTP Service, turn it off. Restart your router.
Worked for me.
