I have just bought another Passport Ultra. About to install it, but I’m being asked to replace the existing WD software on my pc. Was wondering if this will prevent me accessing the older Passport drive in any way, as that would not be good. Please can someone help me ensure I don’t lose access to the pre-existing drive. Many thanks for your help.
You do not need any WD software in order to use your WD Passport Ultra unless you have an active password set with WD Security.
If no password is set then it’s safe to remove all WD-related applications. Your unit will work like a regular external hard drive.
Many thanks Trancer. Sorry, I should have said that my existing Passport has an active password on it. So that’s why I am concerned, as I don’t want to be locked out of that drive. Please can you help me ensure that I can ‘update’ or ‘replace’ the software to allow the new Passport drive to be installed, but still retain access to the pre-existing password protected Passport. Thanks again for your help.
Yes. Software updates to WD Security and WD Drive Utilities are independent from your unit.
However, I’d recommend updating your apps while your hard drive is disconnected.
Thanks Trancer. All sorted now. Both drives working ok.
