I’m having trouble accessing my MyCloud from my workplace. I have no problem accessing from anywhere else, but when I try to log into www.mycloud.com through any browser from work, I get this message:
Can’t connect to [name of my mycloud drive] Here’s what you can do to try and fix the problem: 1. Make sure your device is powered on and connected to a network with Internet access. 2. Update the My Cloud firmware. You’ll need to do this from the device dashboard (web interface) under Settings. 3. Accept your device’s security certificate. Note: After you accept the certificate, you might have to refresh this tab to see your files. If you still can’t connect to the device, contact WD Support.
My device is working fine, and has the latest firmware. I’ve tried following the steps for the security certificate, but no luck. Is there anything I can do?
Keep in mind however that your work may be blocking access as part of its network security infrastructure requirements. Further some businesses may frown upon their employees accessing remote storage locations as it presents a potential security issue/leak. In certain cases it could even be a termination offense.
I have the same problem with the desktop app. It says that the MyCloud is missing.
There is no provision against cloud storage at my work, so I’m not worried about that. We also routinely access client’s FTP sites without problem when they want to transfer large files to us. I have no problem accessing Dropbox/Onedrive/Google Drive, so I didn’t think this would be any different, particularly when going through the browser.
My intent is to use the MyCloud to replace my paid cloud storage, but I want some sort of offsite backup. My original plan was to connect a hard drive to my work computer, and use WD Sync to keep by home MyCloud synced with the hard drive at work, providing backup in case of a fire or other disaster at home.
Any suggestions for how I could accomplish this?
Accessing other sites using FTP or using Dropbox/OneDrive/Google Drive isn’t necessarily the same as accessing your own personal home network where you have a My Cloud setup. In some cases your home broadband provider may be blocking access to the default inbound ports (80/443) used by the My Cloud for remote access. From your home network use a site like http://canyouseeme.org/ to check inbound port access. In other cases your office firewall may be blacklisting the MyCloud.com web portal or the ports used by the WD mobile/desktop program preventing remote access. Next you need to check the web browser. Try using a different web browser. Try turning off any browser extensions or add-in’s, there are some extensions/add-in’s (like those for script blocking/ad blocking) that could potentially affect accessing the MyCloud.com web portal. Try using a computer or mobile device outside of the office/work environment like a friend or family member’s home to test remote access.
Also I assume you’ve followed the steps within the My Cloud Dashboard to enable remote access and configured at least one user for that remote access including setting up a MyCloud.com web portal account for them?
In certain cases one has to configure alternate ports within the My Cloud and configure port forwarding on the router the My Cloud is connected too.
