When I opened MS/Excel I accidentely deleted a file on my MYCLOUDEX2ULTRA from the list of recently used files, and as a result the file is no longer available from the server. Is there a solution I could use to recover this file. Neeless to say that I will now install a backup solution
If you have Recycle Bin enabled for the share where the file existed, you should be able to find the file in your Recycle bin share.
A more advanced and complicated solution is to use Data Recovery software. For this you would have to connect your drives to a PC and run said Data Recovery software.
John,
Correct, the recycle bin option is now switched on.
The EaseUS software claims that they can scan remote drives (currently in progress) 72%.
Once that is finished, I will also try to add a backup (using ACRONIS software) but want to wait for the scan to complete first.
I have inserted an USB stick on the MYCLOUDEX2ULTRA device, but so far, no visibility of the USB stick.
One step at the time.
Thanks for the additional comments
I had good results with R-Studio Data Recovery.
John,
Thank you, meanwhile I managed the slightly confusing user interface of EaseUS, but it worked!
This is saving a few says work on the data.
It was an interesting experience, recovering data, enabling the wastebasket, and installing a backup.
We can now close this call.
Thank you all again for your patience and good advice and support!
Met vriendelijke groeten / Kindest regards

I know this is an older post, but I just wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else. I’ve definitely been in that “oops” moment where I accidentally deleted something I thought was safe, and recovering it wasn’t as straightforward as I hoped! I had a similar issue with my cloud files and, like you, ended up using EaseUS to get everything back. It’s a bit confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it works well.
I also had to install a backup solution afterward, and let me tell you, that’s one decision I’m glad I made. It saved me from another mini-heart attack later on. I was getting into Excel a lot at the time, and while trying to recover data, I found some great tips through excel tv that made managing files and backups much easier.
You can try recovering the deleted file from your WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra using these methods:
- Check Recycle Bin (if enabled) – Log in to the My Cloud web UI and check if the deleted file is in the Recycle Bin under Shares (if the bin was enabled).
- Use Data Recovery Software – Tools like Recuva, EaseUS, or R-Studio can scan the My Cloud drive if it’s connected as an external disk.
- Restore from a Previous Version – If your My Cloud had Snapshots or Time Machine backups, you might be able to restore an earlier version.
- Contact WD Support – They may provide additional recovery options.
Since you plan to install a backup solution, consider WD Sync, Acronis True Image, or Backblaze to prevent future data loss.
