Question about setup

Dear WDTV users,

I’m looking for some advice regarding my personal setup. I have looked and looked, and am yet to find the best way to go about things.

My current setup is as follows:

A WD My Book Essential 2TB USB 3.0, formatted as Mac OS journaled and connected to an Airport Extreme. It’s partitioned to contain media on one partition and Time Machine backups on the other. Works like a charm.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to stream media to my TV. Can I simply buy a WD TV Live and will it recognize the WD external hard drive with my media connected to the Airport Extreme?

If not, could I hook up the WD external hard drive to the WD TV Live and access my media (does it support Mac OS journaled HDDs?) and will I still be able to use the partition for wireless Time Machine backups (will it also be accessable via the internal network)?

If there is no support for Mac OS journaled HDDs, is my best option to buy a WD TV with internal HDD, or is it cheaper to buy one without an internal HDD and buy another USB HDD (which can be formatted as any type)?

Thank you for your time!

Hi, if the Airport Extreme has a media server or allows the my book to be accessed as a shared folder, it should work. Check the links below for more info.
