Hello all, ive got a wd live player , when i try to play a mkv file with dts5.1 I only get sound thru the center channel of my surround sound system .When i start the file the light on my sony receiver pops up showing its getting dts 5.1 signal but only the center channel puts out sound. This occurs when the wd is set for digital passthrough and when set for optical out .Im using hdmi for video &audio, Anybody else with this problem . If i rip that same mkv file onto a dvd and play it the dts 5.1 works good . Any ideas?Oh by the way, the wd is upgraded to the latest firmware.
Can you post more information? Such as, the model of your receiver.

Hi Lockunut, I’ve appended my original post below - see the third entry which is mine. http://community.wdc.com/t5/General-Discussions/New-Owner-of-WDTV-Live-just-resolved-some-issues-and-thought-I-d/m-p/109880#M17647 DTS 5.1 is not supported but Dolby Digital 5.1 is. Convert the file from DTS to DD and it works. As a final comment - the whole thing (WD TV LIVE) is a bit flakey (in my opinion), as I have to reboot Windows (XP or 7) sometimes in order to get the audio to work. I’m really not sure if it;s a Windows problem or WD problem. The video is OK but the audio goes on & off continuously - usually a reboot fixes it. Good luck. Let me know how you get on.
just found out the problem , i had a setting wrong on my sony receiver, it works now, feel really stupid.

Not true… As OP now sees, DTS5.1 is fully supported.
It might work for locknut but it sure don’t work for me. Only DD 5.1 does. DTS 5.1 flashes up ERROR on my decoder.
What make & model is your decoder?
I use an HDMI cable from the WD TV Live box to the TV for the picture. The surround system that I’ve got is a Panasonic SA-HT900. DTS & DD DVDs work fine. I use the digital-in connection from the WD TV box. The only soundtrack that seems to work is DD 5.1. Anything else flashes up an error on the decoders display.
So you’re using HDMI from the WDTV to the TV and OPTICAL from the WDTV to the PANASONIC?
And you’ve set the output to be DIGITAL PASSTHROUGH VIA OPTICAL?
That’s correct.
