Surround Sound?

I can’t play mkv files with dts 5.1.  When I select digital it plays 2.0 dts.  Is 5.1 possible?

I have a Live Plus with latest firmware, and Sony reciever

I’ve tried outputting:  - audio via optical cable to the reciever and hdmi to tv for video

                                     - hdmi for audio/video to reciever

                                     - hdmi for audio/video to tv, and a optical cable to reciever from tv

Sure. 

I’ve never heard of any issues with 5.1 DTS.

As long as:

  • You set Audio output to Digital Passthrough
  • You’re connected to a DTS-compatible decoder

I’ve already tried setting it to digital passthrough and the reciever is capable of decoding dts.

Audio is funny though.  I think my reciever might be trying to create surround sound with what has been given, because I’m hearing sound through all my speakers, but it isn’t true 5.1.  For example my left channel and center channel are playing the same sound which I think should only be playing through the center channel, because it’s the main dialouge. The remaing 3 speakers are playing background music.  I don’t know, I think it may unable to play dts 2.0 properly.  Stereo works fine though.

I’ve read posts about people having issues with dts or ac3 surround sound, but also others who apearantly are able to play them properly.
