I have been using the media player WD TV for over 12 months, no problems, but in the last 2 weeks 3 movies I have tried to play have caused this.
I upgraded firmware this evening and I still have the problem.
the movie format is avi. desen’t appear any different to any other movie I have ever played
I’m at a lost , why won’t it play, but will play quite nicely on my 5 year old computer?!?!
I think you’re in the wrong forum. The Elements hasn’t been around for a year.

Because it’s a bad encode, but VLC has been written to (and advertises that it will) play bad/damaged files.
Whatever settings you used when you made the files that _ WILL _ work, go back and re-make the bad files with the same program and those settings – you know those settings are correct.
