If you’re getting the never ending looping, you can indeed get back to a working unit by rolling back to the previous firmware. Directions are here: http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5800
Updated from 1.06.16_V
Now unable to connect to my wireless network (unbroadcast SSID, open) via AirLink 101.
It does see broadcasted SSIDs fine, haven’t tried connecting to them as they are neighbors.
Reset to factory settings, same issue.
Swapped adaptors with my WDLive TV Hub - it works fine with both.
Tried firmware rollback (to 1.06.16), but it doesn’t recognize the firmware files (extracted to root of USB drive).
Tried another drive, still not recognizing the files to update firmware. Seems to mount USB drive though.
This release 5ux big ballz… It may have rendered my WD permanently unuseable.
Thanks to DeadlyEd and the others who posted links to the ‘roll-back’ page!
The reason I need to roll back is it trashed access to You-Tube. On my box, I don’t get the menu that allows you to login to the new ‘leanback’ UI on You-Tube, rendering that feature quite useless.
File playback over the connected drive and network shares are working fine. I didn’t bother to test HD files or a wide variety of file types because I know I am rolling-back.
As I was more than happy with the unit before the uprade, the biggest question on my mind is how soon will the WD servers stop offering me a poison pill? I would also point out that what I have seen of the ‘lean back’ UI doesn’t interest me anyway.
In fact, since I like the 1.05.04 build so much, can I have a version of it that doesn’t temp my niece to push the ‘Yes’ button the next time an update rolls out? (something along the lines of spoofing the release number up into the ozone…you know, version 99.99.99,)
I did take the time to poke arround some looking for a ‘disable updates’ option, but didn’t find it.
Hey guys with spinning arrow. I was able to get box to boot by doing the following. Click reset button while unit powered up. Unit will begin restarting as soon as power light comes on just start hitting the home key every half second. Home screen came up and I was able to navigate. I rolled back to last firmware using usb from that point. good luck
Same problems here: when I am able to access to network sources, I have to wait about 30" before the movie (720p) starts. And I think that video quality is worse than the one before the update.
Please fix ASAP!
Updated to the new 1.06.34_b firmware today and now my WDTV Live Plus box will not play MKV files over Network Shares, only MP4 and MOV files (and some AVI Files) (tried waiting for a few minutes and just a black screen.)
Oh wait, after nearly 3 minutes of buffering, an MKV file finally played but then started to stutter. So yes, MKV support over Network Shares is now borken with this firmware.
Please fix this WD!
I downgraded to the last (.16) firmware, but now how do I get the NEW FIRMWARE FOUND message from appearing whenever I turn my WDTV LIVE PLUS box on?!! HELP
Same problem, MKV files will not play over Network Shares (USB only) now with this firmware, unless you want to way nearly 3 minutes staring at a black screen, and then have intermittent pauses and choppiness. 1.06.34B is a huge failure.
Yes same issue here.
Thanks, you are right.
However, this firmware is ver bad! The video files takes ages to load, espically mkv about 4 mins. This is not worth it over iPlayer. I can watch that on my PC or Blu-ray.
I expect WD to fix this soon! This is my first bad experience with WD, which is disappointing as I had good view of WD.
I have reverted back to the old firmware…
Same issues as above.MKV black screens, arrow spinning for ages and long delay starting playback.
Was looking forward to iplayer but have had to rollback firmware to be able to play files.
Hope not too long for a fix

Can someone please help me find previous firmware versions like 1.06.16_V (and others) for download so that I can start downgrading.
Fixed the auto play problem, but it does not help if I cant use my D-Link and cant access shares.
This box is now useless to me.
If you can’t get past the looping circle, reset your device to factory defaults. This will turn autoplay off again, which is causing this issue.
However, when you’re finally back in the device, you’ll find that everything is slower and worse than before,
so consider rolling back to a previous firmware.
Instructions on how to roll back and previous versions of the firmware are found here : http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5800
What the heck does this firmware mean?
confused

What a train-wreck. And WD have popped in just the once, to inform us that the remote control app, which is explicitly called out in the release notes, isn’t yet available. That’s the sum total of their help - to let us know that the remote control app might be eventually available.
This took a year; don’t, anyone, expect anything to be fixed.
This breaks my DNLA usage. I could stream to the WDTV before the update. Not now. Does anyone have any info on a fix. My most common usage was the Play to service from Windows 7.
I’m going to have to rollback as well - it keeps freezing my video and it also loses my connection to the network (and in turn my laptop). Plus it took ages to recognise my passport drives even though they’re physically attached to the box and not on a network share.
I watched 2 of my 3 WD TV boxes go through the upgrade on line and now I have 2 boxes that after reset display “loading” and they will never come back up, if I press “menu” I will get the root menu for a split second then they go back to the wonderful screw for ever.
Is there a way that I can reload the previous firmware or are are these boxes bricked?

Found the answer!!! Should have read all other posts…
“AUTO PLAY” must be OFF before you attempt to upgrade - if it wasn’t then you must reboot with a USB device so you can config autoplay.
********** I am disappointed with WD for this crappy release ************
Connection to Network Shares not possible any more or only working evers 100th time.
Starting to play movies lasts about 30 sec.
1080p movies ts/m2ts without sound and stuttering
a full working (good) media player has been made absolute useless by the update. rollback to previouse firmware is necessary.
maybe the right time to make a cut for something new and working…
Same floating doughnut, used old firmware to get into the setup, changed video from auto… Tried the 1.06.34… nothing workes except the weather … fewer choices then 1.06.16… I went back to previous firmware.
THANK YOU for posting the link to old firmware!!! It loads faster from the USB stick.
Shame on you WD for releasing such a crappy firmware “Update” with fewer choices to too!!
And that from a companie like yours. Tsk…Tsk…(Shaking head, walking away)
