WHY WILL MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE OR DRIVES NOT SHUT COMPLETELY DOWN WHEN I SHUT OFF MY WDTV LIVE BOX....I HAD A WDTV LIVE PLUS AND IT SHUT MY EXTERNAL DRIVES COMPLETELY OFF WHEN I POWERED DOWN...PLEASE HELP...I DO NOT WANT MY DRIVES RUNNIN ALL DAY.

The hard drives will remain on when the WDTV SMP is put in standby mode by just pressing the off button.
To shut the SMP down, hold the off button for at least 5 seconds when turning it off, this will also shut down the hard drives.

My Buffalo 1TB external usb drive powers down when i put my smp into standby, BUT the hard drive also goes into standby when i dont use the smp for a while, it powers down a while before the smp, my smp also goes into standby after a while of none use, with CEC turned on, it also puts my tv into standby when it goes off.
This means at night when im watching a movie in bed, i can just start the movie and not have to worry about the smp, hdd AND tv switching off, its all automatic.
Thank you…the solution of holding power for 5 seconds worked…i am delighted…now i wish someone could tell me whats the most stable and reliable firmware…ive been afraid to update due to constant bugs in every firmware
