I’ve installed the device and MyCloud Dashboard apps on my PC and mobile apps. I’ve also transferred all our family’s data files (pics, music, business files, etc) over to the MyCloud hard drive.
Now, I want to use it “practically”:
-
Can I not save directly to the MyCloud? If so, should it show up as an eligible location in the explorer menu. For example, when I select File, Save, should I not see it in the location pane to select? I am not currently.
-
Can I house a software application on the MyCloud drive to launch from a remote machine?
Thank you and apologies for what feels like very naive questions.
1- Map shares as network drives.
2-I don’t get this… What kind of funcionality are you looking for? File managment? Transfers, move, copy, delete stream?
Hi there,
1-) Yes you can “Map” any Share inside MyCloud which you want to show in explorer as a location, once you map it it will look just as any other drive in Windows Explorer, use This WD Tool to map your MyCloud shares and access them easily in Explorer, it’s called “Quick View” you should visit the Learning Center Here specially its “How To’s” section to learn lots of cool stuff about your device.
2-) I don’t believe you can normally do that (probably hacking it through ssh, which I don’t recommend as it would void your warranty)
Ok got it. That is intuitive. How do I map? I am familiar w/ the Map Network Drive feature in Explorer, but unable to locate the drive. I assumed I could use the ipaddress but perhaps I’m not using the correct configuration. Appreciate your help.
simply use browse button from menu when you click on map network drive it will scan network then select mycloud.
Use the tool I told you above, Download it, unzip it, install it and then from its tray icon in Windows right click Select “WD MyCloud” then select “Map” then simply select which folders you want to map so as to show in “Computer” in Windows Explorer.
