MYBOOKLIVE 2gb Possible Failure how to extract

My mother has a Mybook Live 2gb NAS, she was moving some things around to her desk and unplugged the drive, but when she hooked it back up that evening the driver never came back online.  She is freaking out because she has data on there that she doesn’t want to loose.

She said that she spent time on the support with WDC, but they said that they won’t do a RMA till we try to get the data off, that is fine.   She gave me the Nas to try to get it to connect , and all i’m getting is a solid YELLOW light after the purple bootup light.  I have tried the reset button.

The back of the NAS drive lights are lit up, and my router is seeing a connection on the network light.   just nothing responding from the nas. - still solid YELLOW.

If I was to open the Nas Drive up, and attempt to hook the drive up to a PC, what file structure will i need to be able to read the data?  Am I going to need to boot into LINUX or can I use my windows 7.    I could use some assistance.

Thank you.

Also, never have 1 copy of important data. Some easy reading:

Major Item:

“Home users might not need redundancy but they definitely need backup, which basically means keeping separate copies of data in multiple places so that if something happens to one place you can turn to another. The more copies of data you have, the safer it is.”

Good luck!
