Hello everyone, this is my first post.
I’ve searched the forum for an answer, but i found no similar issues.
First of all I have to say that my situation is really out of every official support.
This is what happened:
I had to recover a PC with failing HD as soon as possible. So i went to nearest shop to buy an HD, they didn’t sell bare plain HDs, and i bought a WD MyBook Live. Then I opened it to get the HD to replace the failing one.
I tried to open the MyBook case as carefully as possible to save both the case and the electronics for later use.
I had to format the 1TB HD taken from the MyBook, with no possibility to clone it somwhere else. I saw 4 or 5 Linux partitions: I guess the smaller ones for an operating system installed, and a large partition for data storage.
Now I’m trying to set back up the MyBook with another HD inside.
As expected, the MyBook stops with a yellow light trying to load the Operating System.
My question is:
is it possible to download some “factory Operating System” iso image from the WD web site, tranfser it onto the blank HD (2TB instead of 1) I put inside the case, and have the MyBook do the work it was originally ment for?
For the case only has ehternet, I was wandering that maybe I can put the HD into a USB case and use " dd" command from a Linux machine to copy the OS image on the HD.
Maybe the problem is the 2TB? Does the case only support 1TB?
Thanks
