My WD drive isn't recognised by my Samsung tv - any advice?

Hi

I have a 3 TB WD Elements external drive and I was hoping to use it to record from my Samsung smart tv. I have connected it to the USB HDD socket on the tv and plugged it into the mains socket and although the drive’s light is on, it’s not showing up on the tv. I have used USB sticks before on the tv that have been recognised so I’m not sure why this drive isn’t showing?

I have the same problem. Have you ever been able to resolve this problem?

Smart TV’s can have compatibilty issues with GPT (GUID Partition Table) … which all new hard drives now have.

Older hard drives (2TB and less) use MBR (Master Boot Record) Partition Table … which older Smart TV’s do support.

Thank you so much for your help! This was exactly the problem: GPT to MBR.
