My second WD Elements has quit

My second WD Elements has gone dark. My first one lasted less than a month and now the replacement has quit in just a few days. It lasted just long enough for me to transfer just short of 1TB to the drive, then it completely died and all of those files I transfered are gone. Does anyone know if I can send this one back and use what I paid towards the purchase of a internal drive? I know they work since that is the only hdd I have used for over twenty-five years.

Hello,

If you need to recover the files on the drive, I recommend trying with a data recovery software.

Tried that in both Windows and Debian. Gpart could not even read it and that’s what I’ve used in the past to recover files. It’s dead and still under warranty but after two I don’t want to mess with one any more. I plan to stick with WD but not WD Elements. I asked about it here thinking someone might know if I can send it back and use what I paid towards an internal drive? Next step is to contact Western Digital.
