My Passport Ultra on PC help

Help. I just recently bought the WD My passport ultra 1Tb HD so I’m not sure why I am getting errors on it saying that files are running on it when I want to safely remove even though when I check I don’t see any programs that could be running on it at the time. I am afraid that I may corrupt a few files if I remove it now, but it won’t even back up files right now because it does not detect the files in the drive. I also get the problem of not being able to delete certain files on it for some unknown reason.

Hi, welcome to the community.

There are sometimes when the antivirus software can be accessing the drive and you would not be able to remove the drive. If you want to remove the hard drive you can shut down the computer, this will remove all connections to the drive and no file corruption will take place.

One thing that you can do is use the WD DLG which is the testing tool from WD and run an extended test and see if it shows any errors.

You can also check if the same issue happens on a different computer, this way you can check if its something in that particular computer, or something on the passport.

I have no anti virus program on my computer, so that ones off the list. I ran WD DLG and got this message. It isn’t looking good for me. I’ll post an update when I connect it to a different computer.

EDIT: The same files I couldn’t delete on the first computer, won’t delete on another computer making me believe that there is something wrong with the My Passport Ultra External Drive. The good news though is that I can eject my external hard drive safely from another computer.
