My Passport Ultra is corrupt

Still in box, but 2 years old, Passport Ultra 2TB. When connected to the computer get message as follows, “the file or directory is corrupted and unusable.” Any suggestions?

You can try a few steps to fix the issue with your WD Passport Ultra 2TB.

  • First, test the drive on another PC or USB port to rule out connection problems.
  • Next, run CHKDSK by opening Command Prompt as Administrator and typing chkdsk X: /f (replacing X: with your drive letter) to fix any errors.
  • If the drive still isn’t working, check Disk Management to see if it needs a new drive letter or if it should be formatted.
