yesterday i connected my MyPassport drive to my laprop to check some files in my reference library. I got a message telling me it was corrupted or unreadable.
Explorer normally recognises it as my passport, but this time only shows it as drive E:.
(tried checking explorer when the Passport is not connected and it doesnt show E:. I have attempted to use CHKDSk to check it but it locks up at 13% in Stage 4.
Is there a WD s/w app I can use to try to recover data?
Any suggestions welcome.
If your hard disk drive becomes unresponsive or unreadable then there are chances that your drive may become RAW. There are various reasons for this issue such as BIOS settings, USB data line, USB interface voltage variability, drive hidden issue, or compatibility issue, etc.
Whatever be the reason, the end result is data inaccessibility or data loss .
You can try below options as a solution for this issue:
- Establish a connection between another system and USB Data Line to verify whether it is broken or not.
- Make sure the system and motherboard are compatible with each other.
- Verify whether the USB interface voltage is up to the mark or not.
- Use Disk Management to unhide the drive.
- Ensure USB is enabled in Operating System as well as in BIOS.
Hope this will help.
I have the same issue. the hard desk was protected all time in my office. I used it to store data. Does that mean I lost everything?
I will never use WD again
Ok translate that in to normal speak then explain to me why this is the second WD Passport I’ve owned and every time my files become corrupted not long after I’ve used it.
It corrupted my steam cloud man… and my computer more than meets the requirements, so the question is what is it about your software that does this?
And how do I make it stop doing that!
Wtf is the point of an external hard drive if losing the data on it is a common problem?
hi @Irom3b,
I’m facing a similar issue. The hard disk has always been protected in my office, and I’ve used it to store important data. Does this mean I’ve lost all of my files?
