My Passport shown as "unknown device"

I have an older model of the My Passport and I would like to access its contents, but it is not recognized in Disk Manager or File Explorer. On Device Manager it shows up as an unknown device under “Other Devices”. I couldn’t find any drivers for this model, possibly because it is pretty old. Microsoft does not have any drivers for this device.

I tried two different windows 11 PCs and both times yielded the same results.

Try these fixes -

1. In Device Manager, uninstall the unknown device, then unplug the drive and plug it back in.
2. Next, update the driver manually by selecting “USB Mass Storage Device.”
3. Check Western Digital’s website for any firmware or software updates for your drive. If it still isn’t recognized, try using a Linux USB (like Ubuntu) to see if the drive works there.
4. If the drive is detected, use recovery software to save your files.
   If none of these steps help, the drive’s hardware might be faulty.
