My Passport for Mac no longer works

I have used a WD My Passport for Mac as the external hard drive for Time Machine on my iMac for a few years and although it occasionally wasn’t recognised (ie I got “drive not available” messages) it usually came back on line.

It has now stopped working completely. The messages are basically that the external hard drive isn’t available so I can’t back up.

Have you checked the Energy Saver Settings in System Preferences in your Mac?

The cause behind such issue could be that the drive might be going into sleep mode because of the settings in your Mac.
