My Passport Essential SE 1TB USB3.0 detection problem

Hi , i have  My Passport Essential SE 1TB bought in Apr. It was working fine since yesterday when i put it into my friends laptop ( winxp) , now it asks " you need to format this drive f:/ before you can continue".

( i have win Vista on my laptop) -

i tried to remove and plugged again ( all USB ports) - no use.

-i tried to run chkdsk , but it shows hd partition as RAW , in Disk Management it shows 32gb as drive F: and rest 899GB as unallocated.

-i also tried to change the drive letter for F: - didnt work

-Running WD Diagnostics showed PASS in quick test.

Can anyone please suggest a way i can try to make it running again w/o loosing the data ?

I suggest u pass it on to som1 … coz i came across many such cases where once it starts malfunctioning, it happens every now and then

Hi

That problem usually happends when the drive is unplugged without safely remove it first. Windows will not let you use the drive unless you format it.

About the data you can either take it to a data recovery company or search for a data recovery software to see if that helps.
