My Cloud Sync and General Set up - Help

I have researched previous posts but still cannot find an answer to my problem, so any help is greatly appreciated.

I set up my ‘my cloud’ on at the weekend and have linked it to the app.

My understanding is that it is to be used as an external hard drive that can be accessed via the app.

I currently use Dropbox for work purposes as it will automatically sync the latest files, which I can access anywhere via the app on my phone or via my laptop in work.

I would like ‘my cloud’ to work similar to this so I assumed I would need to download ‘my sync’, to which I did and installed last night.

I clicked my work folders that were in my documents folder. It created a new folder ‘My cloud sync’ on my laptops hard drive (I think this is what its called) and uploaded all to my cloud.

I can see these files online if I log on through a web page, however cannot access them via my app on my iPhone.

My questions are:

  1. How do I access these files on my phone app
  2. Should I work from the files in the ‘my cloud sync’ folder on my laptop rather than the files on my laptop hard drive as I assume the only files that will automatically sync once amended would be the files in the ‘my cloud sync’ folder.

I hope this makes sense. The long and short of it is I want the my cloud hard drive to work similar to one drive/dropbox.
