My Cloud Home Duo question

Hi all, I am really interested in the my cloud home duo as it sounds like a budget and user friendly option for NAS at home.
But I have 2 questions

  1. Is the drive user replaceable or is upgrade possible? I mean currently 4TB is more than my need, but if one day the hdd dies or I need extra volume, can I say just swap a retail 6TB WD red hdd inside one by one to make the system become 6TB Raid 1 config? and IF it’s the NAS itself dies off, can transferring the hdd into a new my cloud home duo safe the data?

  2. I have read some reviews saying that since the my cloud home duo need to transfer the data back to the USA host server and then through internet to the device, since I am with a very slow internet connection, can I just use the app and transfer using home wifi local network? if this is not possible than I should opt for much more expensive options like synology, as in my country connecting to USA servers are always in KB/s scale, this speed will rander any NAS backup unusable

Hi chik0240,

My Cloud Home Duo is a user serviceable device for RMA purposes. If the entire device is faulty, it can be returned to WD. You can refer below KBA for more details:

My Cloud Home devices must be connected to the Internet. They should be connected to an available router through the included Ethernet connection. Gigabit capability for the router or switch is recommended to maximize performance. The router requires a Broadband (WAN) Internet connection with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) for initial setup, software downloads and for accessing the device.
