My Cloud continues to reboot, please help!

[object Object]I try to go to the ‘web page’ that tech support help me set up,… (a bookmark) it is not working. The drive restarted for the 39’th time today, I can (occasionally) Access it in ‘My Computer’ so it is ,… active,… I have no way to get into anything called a ‘dashboard’ though,. I click the blue WD icon, I don’t see the word DASHBOARD Anywhere in there,…, Everyone here gives QUIPPY Answers that just lead to the next obvious question, I have been an Animator for 25 years too,… When I help young animators, I HELP. Not use half sentences and add to the confusion PURPOSEFULLY . (Tech definitions good loRD) Opps just restarted again!! THIS IS FUN…

well hello there… why dont you just follow the instructions in the manual?

Perhaps when you say ‘Dashboard’ people mean, SETTINGS? I clicked that and it brought up the web page and this time it worked even though the address is exactly the same,. this is this worst product I have ever had,.

THE MANUAL IS A ONE PAGE PAMPHLET AND YOU KNOW IT. WHEN ONE COMES UP TO A PROBLEM LIKE THE THING IS RESTARTING 38 TIMES AND TEARING ITSELF TO PIECES AND NOT SLEEPING, NO MANUAL IS GOING TO HELP. i WILL POST WHAT AND WHERE i CHOOSE.

The manual is alot more than one page and can be found here. http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705103.pdf

What is called the dashboard is a webpage on the My Cloud and has all the settings. It’s normally http://wdmycloud or http://wdmycloud.local you can also get to it using the IP of your my cloud

THANK YOU!

There are several ways to get to the Dashboard but after setting up your My Cloud you should have had four shortcuts on your desktop if using a Windows PC. See image below.

Since you seem to be having several problems here are some links that I hope will help out.

First link, be sure to use the My Cloud │How it Works tab.

Second link is to the WD My Cloud User Manual.

That’s great! Overall info, the general idea of the thing, THANKS!!!

Still though, nothing there that helps ME… that only describes a working drive,. Mine is INSANE… I come here and see things like this:

“in /etc/rc2.d there is a script called S20restsdk-serverdIf you stop this process. Your cloud should now sleep.”

I have ONLY bought WD Drives for my entire career and this will be my last.

if I help you stop the S20rests script… will you try to calm down so you can express your feelings like a normal human being?

Sorry I can’t help, I have had my WD My Cloud almost two years and have had no problems with it.

I read and used all the information I have provided you with.

It saved me when the hard drive went out on my desktop and had to be replaced. It was easy to retrieve everything from my My Cloud using the SmartWare.

I just found out even CLICKING ON SSH Voids my warranty. I do not appreciate no one mentioning that little tidbit… I DO NOT TRUST THAT SOMEONE SUCH AS YOU WOULD EVER HELP. ONLY HURT. IF YOU WERE THE TYPE TO HELP YOU WOULD HAVE ERR NOW.

you can either let me help you or continue whining around and be disrespectful to anyone who is trying to help you

[/quote] I’M NOT STOPPING YOU

i AM NOT WHINING, I am stating an opinion, one thing I know after 25 years of this stuff is a reliable useful tool form a piece of ■■■■ one has to FIGHT, This is definitely the latter… No amount of work will make it reliable, I can tell from how long (and continuing) the NO SLEEP thread is, with most saying none of the fixes work.

well here goes me trying to help you

just so you cant say that I didnt help you at all

  1. Turn on SSH
  2. Download Putty to your computer
  3. Connect to your My Cloud via SSH (you need ur My Clouds IP address to use as host) use welc0me as password
  4. type in sh /etc/rc2.d/S20restsdk-serverd stop and press enter… this will stop the script :)… will it help you? who knows… will it cure your ignorance? definietly not…

“You didn’t give enough details in your instructions.”

RAC

are you talking to me?

also… as it seems people didnt have any problems on 3v firmware… so you could use this tutorial [ Tutorial ][ SSH Method ] Downgrade v4 firmware to v3 to go back to 3v where it seems were no problems with sleeping

I’m going to lock this thread temporarily until a Mod has a chance to review.
