My book WD10000H1CS

I had WD “my book” WD10000H1CS for several years and I have large data stored in it. Recently when I connected  “my book” to my computer, an error message " You need to format the disk in drive G: before you can use it" appeared. I know if I format “my book”, all data will be erased. I think the potential reason causing the error is due to unplugging “my book” inappropriately.

Any one have any ideas how to restore the data from “my book” in this situation?

Thank you in advance.

TestDisk has helped people with corrupt drives  http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk Recuva is a free data recovery program  http://www.piriform.com/recuva Sometimes booting from a linux Live CD will give you access to a problem drive. EaseUS and other software makers have data recovery software that is try and buy. This might also work  http://www.easeus.com/data-recovery/other-recovery-software/recover-files-from-corrupted-external-hard-drive.htm
