My Book Essential unable to read

Hi all,

I have a 1TB My Book essential. I have always used it for windows. But accidentally someone plugged it into a Mac. Since then I could not read my hard drive in the windows operating system. It gets detected and when I try to open it, comes up with a dialog box asking for me to format it before using it. I want to recover all the data before formatting it. I used testdisk to recover but of no use. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try booting from a Linux Live CD that might work. In Disk Management does show anything about the drive like Raw? You can also try data recopvery software. Recuva is free and others are try and buy.
