My Book Pro 8Tb not connecting via thunderbolt

HI.

I’ve just bought an 8Tb My Book Pro to connect to my 27inch, Mid 2011 iMac and I cannot get it to work using the thunderbolt connection.

It works via the USB3 connection, and I’ve used that to go through the WD set-up utility. I’ve tested the drives using the quick tests and all good.

I know that my iMac is only thunderbolt 1 and the My Book Pro is TB2, but it should be backwards compatible, only running at Thunderbolt 1 speeds.

The drive does not appear in the Disk Utility and nor does the thunderbolt port under the Network System Preference say it’s connected.

I have tried another thunderbolt cable that I know works with another thunderbolt drive and it’s made no difference.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

Hi,

Does the other thunderbolt drive works on that iMac? If yes, contact WD Support directly since you might have a bad thunderbolt port on the new drive.

WD contact info:

Hi Andy,

I have exactly the same problem.
How did you solve it?

Thanks
