Hi all, I’ve been an occassional vistor/lurker for sometime, but this is the first time I’ve needed to request assistance.
In a nutshell, I think I may have fried/over-powered my Western Digital ‘my book’ a few days ago. I accidentaly plugged the power lead for my Toshiba laptop in the HDD. After about 7 seconds (just after it appeared in ‘my computer’ and I clicked on the stored folder I needed to open) the external HDD suddenly died. It was then that I realised I’d connected the incorrect power lead.
However, it seems as though there is still some life in drive because when plugged in to the correct PSU the drive’s blue power light quickly flashed, which gives me hope that there is a chance it hasn’t been fried. Is possible that maybe an internal fuse or diode has shorted to protect the drive from frying?? And, if so, is there a repair.? I desperately need access to the stored files!
Thanks for reaading, and PLEASE HELP!!
It sounds like you probably burned a diode or something on the circuit board. Check the posts by fzabkar he has guided people through bypassing the burnt diode and making the drive usable. He’s the most knowledgable about this. You can also try a PM.
