My Book Live Setup issue

Hi,

Tonight I was trying out my new purchase the My Book Live.

Ran the installer cd and while it can find My Book Live when I install WD Quick View I get an error :

‘A connection with the server could not be established’

Now my drive is accessible and I can map it but I was wondering why the install seems to fail at this stage. This is my first network drive so I could have missed out a step. I have made my network private so it displays the drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

OS : Windows Vista, 32-bit.

Modem the My Book is connected to is an O2 Wireless Box II.

Thanks in advance.

as an aside the Twonky url http://192.168.1.64:9000/ will work but Dashboard http://mybooklive/ doesn’t.

It failed for me a bunch of times too the first time I installed my MBL. You don’t have to use the CD to install it though, if you can see it it works. After I reinstalled windows I didn’t bother with the CD and it works just the same.

Thanks 7Dahl7 - I will do as you suggest and ignore installing from the cd.

Does this mean only the Twonky dashboard will be available and not the My Book Live  http://mybooklive/ dashboard ?

I installed the WD Link software from the website and this gave me access to the WD dashboard.

Hi,

I think i have a similar issue. Bought MBL 1TB yesterday, appeared to install OK (although a message something like ‘Device Reset’ appeared at the end). I can access the public filesthrough Explorer, and I have installed WD SmartWave, but cannot get the dashboard to work at all. It just comes up with a message ‘the connection was reset’. I have installed the WD Link from the website as above, but again i get the same message when i click on ‘configure’

One other thing - when i first installed i mapped to drive Z (and appears as such if i go into My Computer). However, each time i try to do anything else (e.g. reinstall, or use WD Link) it doesnt give me drive Z as an option.

Apols if this is a fairly obvious problem - bit of a beginner at this sort of stuff

Cheers, D

NB running Windows Vista

I have the same issue with mine that I bought today. Very deveiving to purchase a 200$ drive that can’t even install properly.

So i’ve got Vista 64 and have the same symptomes… A connection with the server could not be established when installing the software. Same if I download the install program and run it from my PC. I’ve disabled firewall on my router and on windows and still the same result.

Please help

I am trying to set up 2 x 1tb My book live boxes on my network but i keep getting the "connection to the server could not be established every time i try to use the software to find the 2nd box.

Can anyone tell me if its possible to instal 2 x 1tb mybook live drives on the sme network?

what am i doing wrong…

Did you rename your 2nd box?

Both boxes need to have unique names.   The default of “MYBOOKLIVE” must be changed on one of them.

When I installed my drive, it found two drives - Y: and Z:  I’m using Y: for my backups, and the other one is empty. Can anyone tell me why there are two drives?

I had the same thing, and re-setting my router fixed it (turned off and on)
