I have a pretty new My Book Duo external hard drive. It is connected to my desktops by a USB 3.0 connector. This is confirmed by the connector color blue and the lsusb in Linux shows 3.0 root hub.
The disks utility in ubuntu 20 (desktop A) or 22 (another desktop B) show that the read speed of this Duo is about 40 MB/s in reading and 2MB/s in writing.
But if I transfer a large file 20GB on the desktop to and from the Duo, the speed is about 150MB/s in writing and 200MB/s in reading, measured by the copying program in windows and in ubuntu 20.
The speed measures from disks utility is worrying because with an almost full WD My_Book 12TB, the read speed is about 170MB/s and write speed is about 150 MB/s, measured by the utility.
I read two posts on this support center on this topic, but the replies are mostly irrelevant or not helpful.
With the WD drive utilities on windows, I see the Duo is on RAID0, and it passes the first two tests with no problems.
How can I make the Duo read and write faster?
The slow read and write has a complication, my desktop B freezes when reading many small files e.g. pictures from the Duo, and I have to restart the computer, and then the Duo needs a repair in a windows computer before it can be reconnected. Do you feel the pain?
