since last week , WD Drive Utilities told me that RAID 1 got error, and 1 harddisk was dead, mirroring is not working, so i unplug both hdd to check which one got problem. after i found 1 hdd was dead, and i put back the fine one, Utilities told me RAID Status " Not Configured". i’m so worring about all data inside now is it still here…
what should i do now? i have 1 more 2TB hdd can be replace, but
i should just put both hdd inside MY BOOK DOU and run RAID 1 again?
will WD DRIVE Utilities run automatically?
i should get other NAS to check the fine hdd frist? check if all data is safe?
On a different case i found support being unhelpful. They did not complete resolution and stopped responding to my emails. I guess this might be reason, customers have no choice but post issues in community forums. Generally I enjoy WD products, but support behaviour seems inappropriate.
If one disk in RAID 1 has failed, the data should be intact on the second, working disk. Connect it to your PC directly or via another NAS to make sure the data is still there. Do not insert a new drive or rebuild the RAID, or you risk erasing everything. First, back up the data from the working drive, then you can insert the new one and rebuild the RAID using WD Drive Utilities.
Your My Book Duo now shows “Not Configured” because one drive failed and the RAID no longer exists. The data is probably still on the working drive, but rebuilding the RAID right away could overwrite it. The safe approach is to remove the healthy drive, connect it to a PC or another NAS, and check that your files are accessible. Back up everything immediately. Once your data is safe, you can replace the dead drive and rebuild RAID 1 through WD Drive Utilities, making sure to follow the instructions so the existing data is mirrored correctly.
