My Book connect to directly to network via router

I’ve just bought a 5TB My Book. I’m using my home network peer-to-peer. Is there a way I can connect My Book directly up to my router instead of through one of my PC’s and have the drive work that way?

WELLL??? Sort of, if your router has a shared internal software setup AND the USB ports on the actual router then yes. I have a WD My Book Essentials and a 120GB SSD drive on a simple USB cable attached to mine and one has almost 2TB of movies and the other has about 85GB of my music uploaded to it to play on my system and TV’s in my home. So, yes, dependent on your router and switch. I use a Linksys and can access my shared drives even on my cell phone. Contact the manufacturer of the router or look on the website of the manufacturer. Also, Be warned that there “MAY BE” some permission issues on the adding and deleting of files later off the drive. This is something mine is doing now.
