Moving from MyCloud EX2 to MyCloud EX2 Ultra

Support for OS5-incompatible devices is ending and WD is recommending I upgrade to a newer model, such as MyCloud EX2 Ultra. I have 2 questions:

(1) As I understand it, if I do not upgrade I will lose remote access as well as firmware and security updates. However, I never use remote access, only local. Should I care that it is no longer supported? As for security, I would imagine is there a method by which I could disable any connection between the MyCloud device and the Internet, i.e. force it to only communicate locally. Perhaps this would be a setting on my cable modem?

(2) If I were to purchase a newer MyCloud EX2 Ultra, can I just get the box without any hard drives and swap in the hard drives from my current MyCloud EX2? Would it boot up normally? If so, I assume I could just update OS3 to OS5 on the new device.
