Movie Genre Thumbs, plus link to others

I am a big fan of all of us sharing our work and ideas with the community, and recently a lot of folks have generously offered their movie genre thumbs to the board. I love that idea and will throw mine in as well. There are a lot of posts with them scattered about. Perhaps we need a permanent thread for them so people can find them easily?  Below are links to other peoples posts that shared their thumbs recently.

Here are the ones I’ve made and if anyone likes them you can download from the link below. I made these to match well with the Black Mamba theme, but they they work well with any of them. The picture below has been shrunken to fit the page, the actual jpegs are 240x360. I have a few subgenres at the bottom as well.

I also sort some movies by my favorite directors. I know that is a super niche area, and very few people will have the same favorite Directors as I do, but I’ll post them next anyways in case there is another obsessive movie collector out there that wants to use them.

If you and are willing to, feel free to repost them in this thread so we will have a thread full of genre thumbs of various styles that people can find and download easily. Anyone who wants to add to the fray, jump in and share up your graphics. I always appreciate the work that others have done and been generous enough to share, that’s one of the things that makes this board great. Since I can’t code a theme, here is a little way that I and others like me can give back to the community

Director Genre Thumbs:

These are genre thumbs for sorting some of your movies by director, of course assuming you like the same or some of the same directors that I do. I can’t imagine there are many (or any of you) in the community that will want these, but since I have already gone through the process of making them for myself, here they are.  I avidly collect movies from certain directors that I love, and want those movies sorted by their name and not the movie’s specific genre. It may seem a little abstract to most, but hopefully there is another movie fanatic out there amongst us who would get some use out of these.

I spend a lot of time messing around with photoshop and make a lot of stuff most of witch i don’t even use, but still keep.

I recommend trying the 200x300 thumbs first.

They always seam to look best in themes i have used. Crisp and sharp!

Collection Thumbs & Linksheets

Here are some thumbs for movie collections that I have made. The individual jpegs are 240x360.Each of the collections also has an an associated linksheet for those of you using themes that can take adavantage of them. The linksheets are 1280x720. If you are unclear of how to use linksheets for folders, a quick search of the board should get you the information you need. The linksheets are obviously not nescessary and you can just use the the thumbs.

Hey Pearl thanks for the mention but you’ve given me a dilemma now!!! I was perfectly happy with the look and functionality of Alaska but wow those linksheets look immense. I’m itching to go and find a tutorial now but I’m fighting the urge lol

@DeVicous - Thanks Dev, that means a lot. As I assume you can tell, I was inspired by your theme and tried modeling my thumbs to match well with it. Sheesh, took me a long time to figure out the snakeskin look. Still loving Good Bye Black Mamba every day since you released it.

@architectonic - Thanks for props and the link. I choose my favorites, but also for me has to be a Director that I have a lot of their movies. once I get past 4-5 movies from an Auteur, I make a folder and thumb for them. For example I really like Kenji Mizoguchi, but only have “Ugetsu” and “Sansho the Bailff”, so for now I just have those in “Foreign” untill I get a few more of his movies. Scorese is an interesting one for me. Well deserving of his own folder (watched “Taxi Driver” last week for the 20+ time!) but so much of his work is well known main stream moves that I would rather have his stuff in my “crime” and “Drama” genres folders, just personal choice I guess.

If anybody likes the Director concept and wants to use some of these but doen’t see their favorite, I would be happy to make a few thumbs for them. Also willing to do other genres if anyone needs them (I have not kids, thus no “childrens” genre etc.)

To anyone out there making thumbs or linksheets, post em up in this thread and share with the community! You have already done the work, might as well share your skills.

I will have to check out some of your favourite directors’ films/ work,  as in all honesty I haven’t heared of some of the more obscure/ less known directors.

Thanks for posting up and sharing your graphics dudeman316. Very generous. Can see them now, and it’s fantastic looking stuff. Really great work! I’m sure folks will want these. Having seen a lot of your other linksheets already, I hope you will post them up here as well for others to download

Wow, thanks for the new posts! Just based on the DLs of the stuff I have put up, I know a lot of people are grabbing these and trying them out with their WD devices.

 

@Plums00 - Great new thumbs, thanks for adding them to the collection. Your set beoming really comprehensive and covers pretty much every genre poeple could want. One stop shopping. Love it. 

@dudema316 - Love the new linksheets you have been working on.  Your work has just been getting better and better the past few months, and and they absolutley “pop” on the screen. Congrats

This is great, we are really starting to build up a great collectio for the community.

Anyone need genre thumbs or linksheets, feel free to ask. We have some talented folks here making these and giving them to the community. I know that at least one of us would certainly jump in and make a thumb or linksheet for any reasonable request.

yes ask away, I can do requests, I still have much more to do, I have been choosing linksheets for my own collection & sharing those & will continue to share as I get more done.

Also I am working on Genre thumbs,I will share the ones I have made as well. Keep up the good work everyone.
