More Timemachine Issues

The SSD in my MacAir died … good thing I have a timemachine backup to MyCloud!
Replaced the SSD and attempted to restore and I received the attached error.

Steps taken:

  1. Rebooted MyCloud
  2. Rebooted Mac (in normal, safe and recovery
  3. logged into MyCloud (the share is there and has approximately 1TB of data)

Assistance appreciated as I’ld like to recover my configuration rather than attempt a rebuild (aka toss the MyCloud in the trash).

Using nfs I was able to mount the disk and open the sparse bundle recovering several critical items. However, I’m not able to use the sparse bundle for recovery or migration as it simply isn’t recognized.

Bottomline for me is that MyCloud is not a reliable solution for TimeMachine backups, I’m looking for an alternative. FOR SALE MyCloud Ultra EX2 … cheap.

I use timemachine for file backup but for total system
CCC and super duper to clone -

Acronis for PC backups

If running Big Sur or M1 Mac computers things are going to be harder for a time so data only backs and do a system restore online with Apple-- ( or a FULL install file if you can find one )

The EX2 is still a useful item – might be worth 3x more if still on os3 firmware

Appreciate the feedback. I’m really looking for a single reliable solution.

The EX2 Ultra, isn’t to preform full system restores for some reason that I don’t care to take the time to figure out. It is not a reliable TimeMachine backup. Until I can identify a NAS that supports TimeMachine’s full capabilities. I’m using direct attached storage.

But since I was able to replace the SSD with one 8X the capacity of the original (relatively inexpensively). All my other MACs are using the SSD in this machine as the TimeMachine backup.

I’m waiting on Gen2 silicone before I move to the next version.
