MKV with DTS via HDMI on stereo Plasma TV - simple question

Hello iam totally confused by terminology and iam unable to find answer to simple question.

If i would have this very small setup with just 1 HDMI cable runing from WD to TV:

WD TV Live ------> conected via HDMI ------> Panasonic G20 plasma TV

audio playing only on the TV speakers, no reciever, no external speakers

when i play 1080 HD movie in MKV with DTS audio… is there a setting in WD TV Live to play the DTS sound on my stereo Plasma TV speakers via HDMI… i think its called downmix to 2.0 via HDMI ?

please just tell me:

YES you will hear the DTS sound, converted for your stereo speakers on Plasma TV, connected via HDMI

or

NO there will be NO SOUND coming out of TV, there is no setting to enable this on WD TV Live…

p.s. i dont want to change anything hardware on my very SIMPLE setup

THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS

Hi rudyP,

I’ve got the same config and haven’t had any problem with DTS audio downsampling.  Both mine are stock settings but you may want to try the current firmware as well as factory reset on the WD TV Live box.

Good luck!

Same setup here, DTS plays find at the G20. I’ve done nothing special to accomplish this.

you are both connected

WD TV — via HDMI — to TV

and the movies are MKV bluray rips with DTS only sound ??

please confirm

Rudy,

If you switch the WD Live to “Stereo” (as opposed to “Digital”) in the Video/Audio settings then it should indeed play audio via HDMI to your TV (it won’t be surround sound).
