Mac Restore Backup Issues

Hi everyone,

I have a 3T my cloud that I have used to backup my iMac data in. The iMac has been formatted and now i Need to restore my backup from my cloud. Through the process OS doesn’t recognize the Backups inside my cloud. I tried to use Migration tool but still it says no backup is found.

So how do I restore my backup now?

your help is appreciated and needed…

If you used Apple’s Time Machine to perform the backup have you tried using the OS X Recovery option to restore that Time Machine backup to the computer?

OS X: About OS X Recovery

No I haven’t. Will it work through wifi?

Or is there a way to connect my cloud directly with iMac to make the backup faster as the backup size is almost 800 GB?

Per the link provided in my post the article indicates one can use either Ethernet or WiFi. Note that using WiFi to backup or restore will generally be slower than using an Ethernet connection.

Yes the My Cloud can be directly connected to the computer’s Ethernet port. A direct connection mentioned in Appendix C in the My Cloud User Manual (http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/?id=439&type=25).

Thank you very much,

i’ll try to do it today and get back to you

I got this message “Enter your name and password for the server"WDMyCloud-2.local.” So that time machine can access it"
Name: System Administrator

Is there a password for that?

Because I enter my user name and password and it says no backups is there

Did you setup a password for the My Cloud administrator account? If so try using that name/password.

No I haven’t, I only have one username and when I put it, it still says no backup is found even though I see the back file in the finder window but I can’t access it

Is it possible to move the Backup file into another hard drive and make it work?

Possibly. I don’t use a Mac so I have never tried using Time Machine or moving a Time Machine backup to another location.

One suggestion. Access the Dashboard and give the Administrator account (User) a password. Then try the Time Machine restore again and see if it will accept the login and find the Time Machine backup.

I also assume you are pointing the Time Machine program to the proper backup location (Share) on the My Cloud…

It seems I’m getting something now.

In the recovery mode it read the back but I get this message "The Backup cannot be opened

It appears that this backup is already in use. Make sure the backup is not currently mounted by another machine and try again"

The mycloud isn’t mounted to anything expect the desired machine.
