Just bought a 750gig passwport, but it says 698gig?

Hello, I’m totally new here and have just purchased a 750 gig passport.

But when I connected it to my computer to install it, I noticed that the gig count was off by 52 gigs. So instead of having a 750 gig passport it says i have 698 gigs. Is this normal or is my unit defective and I should return it for a new one?

This is normal, your computer is reading the size of  your drive in Binary. Your drive is not faulty.

As per WD statement:

A binary capacity is determined by dividing the total number of bytes, by the number of bytes per gigabyte (1,073,741,824 using base 2).
