Hello there.
I have a bit of an issue.
I have a WD My Passport Wireless 500GB external HD
it is one of the older models. I got this device back in 2012 or 2014.
The drive was working great up until recently.
I go to plug the drive into the computer and it won’t even recognize that it is connected.
The wifi light will do a quick seconds blink and then nothing. Not even a drive spin.
My assumption is that the battery is dead.
So I go to plug it in to let it charge and it does the quick blink with the wifi… so I unplug it and plug it back in and a Solid Red Light appears.
(note I no longer have the original provided charger that it came with)
I figured that the battery is dead so I let it charge overnight. I come back the next morning to see how it faired and it is still on a solid red light. Thinking that it charged, I unplug it and it won’t turn on as if the battery is dead.
My issue is I have important files on this device and I need to get them off. ALOT of these important files pertain to a documentary series that I am editing and need access to them.
Im out of ideas and do not know what to do.
Thanks
The computers that I always use it on is a MacBook Pro. I have two computers and the are both MacBooks. It won’t work on either one.
The Red LED means the battery has between 8-19% power
Fully charged, the LED will be Blue.
The original charger is 5V 2A … is your ‘replacement’ the same ?
I responded to another persons post where theyclaimed the My Passport Wireless won’t work via USB with a dead battery … which, i’m a little skeptical of (will have to test mine without the battery attached)
If it does turn out to be true … it’s easy enough to remove the internal hdd and put it in a 3rd party USB enclosure as the hdd is a standard SATA drive (just plugged into a USB connector)
The replacement is the same. Also the charging cable is that wierd one that the note 3 and note 4 also used. Iv been using the same cable and charger for as long as I can remeber.
It was only yesterday it woudnt work via usb. I tried it on my macbook pro 2010. Plug it in and i get the blinking wifi signal for 5 seconds then nothing. Not even the sound of the drive loading. Tried on my macbook pro 2019, same issue. Plug it into charge and get the red light even after leaving it charge for 24 hours. My charger is 5v 2a. Iv used it for ages. I do not have many external drives that use the same cable.
It worked fine a month ago.
also id remove the ssd but to be honest, i am not tech savvey so id def mess up. All i wanted to do was transfer my info from this drive to my Lacy 4tb drive
