Is WD not going to publish the firmware source code under GPL anymore?

With the latest firmware release of 2.x, I no longer find any downloadable firmware source code published under GPL ( http://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?p=220 ) like what they had been doing for the past year and half for EX2. Does this mean WD will now no longer publish that source code?? If so, then that is a HUGE retrograde step for those of us who have relied on customizing and/or fixing inadequacies we used to find in WD’s stock firmware by compiling our custom firmware.

I hope someone from WD will clarify this question. It was, for me, the main reason I liked my EX2 despite having a QNAP NAS as well.

On the website the “WD Software” and “Product Update” are both not updated e.g. only up to Firmware Release 1.05.36 (7/8/2015).

It’s very unlikely that they would choose to ignore the GPL. So you probably just have to wait for it to reach the website.

Hmm…just checked your point…good observation. You may be right…they always used to post the compiled firmware and source code at the same time, right before the release. This time they did neither. Still would be reassuring to hear from WD that that is the case. Of course, I can’t imagine they permanently not make the compiled version available for folks like me who need the compiled firmware download because I have auto-update turned off.

Thank you for letting us know your concerns. We at WD take our open source software obligations seriously. We will be updating our website shortly with the necessary source code release when we release the manual update package.

The new firmware is now available for manual download, however the source code is still unavailable.  I would guess they will put it up soon.

That is correct.

Glad to see the open source packages will still be available. I’ve been eagerly waiting for it since I manually updated a week ago!

And it’s here!
