Is My Passport Ultra incompatible with My Passport Discovery?

Ever since I installed My Passport Discovery, my My Passport Ultra and older My Passport will not work. Instead they freeze the Start Menu and File Explorer and my entire taksbar. (The computer detects the Passports and will open File Explorer to show the files, but then it freezes.) If I try to reinstall the software from My Passport Ultra and the old My Passport it just says “version 2.0.0.71 is already installed”. I reinstalled Windows 10 to see if this would fix the problem but it didn’t.

Has anyone else experienced this (or not experienced it)? I contacted WD Support via email but they wouldn’t confirm they were incompatible and told me to telephone. I thought I would try here first.

I have a 4TB My Passport Ultra and am running Windows 7 and have never installed My Passport Discovery or ANY software to get it working … took the drive out of the box, plugged it into my Win7 PC and it was recognized instantly … it’s been working that way for about 3 or more years now.

If Windows 10 needs installing software to recognize an external USB hard drive then i think i’ll stay on Windows 7 for a long time (don’t even care when support ends for it, cus it’ll still work … and from the sounds of it better than Win 10)
