Info on WDTV Hubgen Software

I use WDTV HUBGEN Software for my Live and Live + boxes, but Since yesterday, I’m getting a ‘Server is Down’ error message when starting the Prg.

System.Net.WebException: The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel.

When checking it out, I found

System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server —> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions 162.125.1.15:443

any Idea if this will be fixed ? or is this the end of my favorite software.

Hi @Commie,

Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:

Same thing is happening to me, are you using Windows 7? I suspect that is the problem, TLS 1.3 not supported on Windows 7, it’s a shame, this was the best program out there to download metadata.

You can try 2 other options:

http://www.tonysown.net/XMLFetcher/XMLFetcher.html

Or the option that let’s you manually create XMLs:

http://www.frillen.dk/apps/xml-editor/

I’m using Win 10 Pro (x64), not Win 7…

not to complain to much (but a bit), I’m not looking to manually create xml files for my shows (as it would take me forever for a 200+ TV episode series), I’m mainly looking for a simple, fast way to make everything uniform (while still creating the thumbnails and .xml files)

Just about all my TV Shows are in this format (and I am looking for something to keep it that way)

.folder.metathumb
TV Show (S01E01) - Episode Name.eng.srt
TV Show (S01E01) - Episode Name.metathumb
TV Show (S01E01) - Episode Name.mp4
TV Show (S01E01) - Episode Name.xml

And the same for my Movies (while adding the Year to the Movie Name)

Movie Name (2021).eng.srt
Movie Name (2021).metathumb
Movie Name (2021).mp4
Movie Name (2021).xml

WDTV Hubgen Software 'DID" everything that I wanted, without adding a bunch of ■■■■ files into the mix.
The only thing that I had to do besides running the software was use a mass re-namer and change the .jpg to .metathumb

XML Fetcher is close, but I have to look up the shows manually, just to get the ID#, so too time consuming (can’t click on ‘get videos’, then ‘Process All’ wait 30 seconds and done)…
XML-editor is for creating the files manually (not what I need).
Media Center Master Creates way too many junk files that I don’t need (and I find it buggy).
ThumbGen is probably the closest to what I need (although besides renaming the .jpg to .metathumb, I have to rename the .nfo to .xml)

Is there anything else that I haven’t tried yet ? (or better still, will the WDTV HubGen Server be going back up?)

There is no HubGen server, all the software does is get data from https://thetvdb.com/ and imdb.com.

Oh, so there may be hope for me then… (fingers crossed)

System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server —> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions 162.125.1.15:443

When I saw the above, I ‘assumed’ that WDTV HubGen got some info from a server that went down (ip appears to go to a dropbox account).
I’m glad that you clarified that.

The developers page looks abandoned, you can try, you never know…

It should still work. Mine does and I couldn’t live without it! I know version 2.3.1 and 2.3.1.1 you have to click continue even if it errors and it will still launch and work.

Movies work, TV shows don’t, it can connect to IMDB, it can’t connect to TVDB, security for that site changed on their end.

I would pay for the subscription if someone could write it to ask for that data in order to connect.

I’ve given up, I just manually create them:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
